Surrounded by organic gardens, ancient landscapes and endless skies, this is a place to breathe deeply, embrace the slower pace of the outback and discover the simple joy of being present.

Your private retreat features three beautifully renovated 1960s caravans, thoughtfully designed for comfort while retaining their nostalgic charm. Caravan One offers a comfortable double bed and single bed, Caravan Two has a fully equipped kitchenette, dining space and cosy reading nook, while Caravan Three provides two comfortable single beds. A charming, purpose-built garden shed bathroom with a shower-over-bath and eco-friendly composting toilet completes your unique outback stay.

Settle in, unpack your bags and make yourself at home. Spend your days fossicking for opal on the property, wandering through our flourishing organic gardens, practising yoga beside the dam, discovering peaceful meditation spots, or simply soaking up spectacular sunrises, unforgettable sunsets and some of Australia’s darkest, most star-filled night skies.

The space

Nestled within THE Hungry Spirit, Coconut Grove is a private outback retreat where vintage charm meets simple comfort. Three beautifully restored 1960s caravans create a unique accommodation experience, offering space to rest, gather and reconnect.

Spend your days exploring the property, fossicking for opal, wandering through our organic gardens or simply relaxing beneath vast outback skies. Watch spectacular sunrises and sunsets, enjoy yoga by the dam, discover quiet meditation spaces, or curl up with a book in your own peaceful corner.

Your hosts, Rebel and Michael, are long-time Lightning Ridge locals who love sharing the hidden gems of the region. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the spirit of the Ridge, we’re happy to recommend local experiences, healing practitioners, artesian baths, walking spots and places that many visitors never discover.

Coconut Grove offers the perfect balance between an authentic outback escape and the comforts that make your stay relaxing. It isn’t luxury accommodation in the conventional sense -it’s something far more memorable: a place to slow down, breathe deeply and experience Lightning Ridge as locals do.

Guests are welcome to enjoy many areas of THE Hungry Spirit during their stay.

Wander through our organic vegetable gardens—we encourage you to explore, harvest a little and enjoy what’s in season.
Try your luck fossicking through the opal tailings scattered around the property. Any opal you find is yours to keep! (If you happen to uncover a fossil, Michael may be keen to negotiate!)
Fire up the Weber BBQ and enjoy a meal under the stars
Enjoy thai food onsite Thur-Sun 10am-2pm
Guest Wi-Fi is available in the main shared areas of the property (please ask us for the password).

While you’ll enjoy comfortable beds, power, kitchen facilities and thoughtful touches throughout, this is still an authentic outback experience. If you arrive with a sense of adventure and an open mind, we think you’ll fall in love with it.
