THE Tardis: Cara-Glamping, comfy bed & fossicking

Welcome to Lightning Ridge!

You will find opal at the back door and revel in the peace and quiet of our delightfully renovated 20ft caravan, aptly named THE Tardis!

THE Tardis offers a comfy double and single bed with organic cotton linen. It also has air con & heating and basic cooking facilities, as well as access to our gorgeous outdoor kitchen and incredible outback oasis (aka the garden)!

You will be pleasantly surprised by this unique opalfield ‘cara-camping’ retreat.

A short drive to town and all attractions, THE Tardis is just far enough away to be peaceful but close enough to be accessible!

Please note we do not accept pets onsite.

Because we want you to have time to explore Lightning Ridge and enjoy all it’s delights AND have time to relax and enjoy the serenity, wander in our garden, sit and read a book – we accept bookings for a 3 night minimum and recommend a 7 night stay to truly unwind and to let the goodness of this area soak into you bones.

The space

You will be staying on the edge of the opalfields with genuine Lightning Ridge locals!

Your digs are a tastefully and lovingly renovated 20ft caravan we call THE Tardis, which has two single beds and a kitchenette. It has been painted with insulating paint and is equipped with fabulous heating and air conditioning. The comfortable spring beds are lovingly made with crisp organic cotton linen and we offer luxury towels. There are spare towels for trips to the bore baths. There is a bar fridge, double burner gas cooktop, 12v lighting and the water is bottled (no running water in THE Tardis). Weve a lovely library of books – we encourage swapping and there are comfy chairs outside for enjoying the night sky or afternoon drinks. A BBQ makes for great outdoor cooking and you are welcome to pick herbs and veg from our incredible garden. We also have lots of opal tailings around the place that you are welcome to spec (fossick) – finders keepers unless its a fossil in which case you’ll need to negotiate with Michael. There is a shared outside bathroom (we may have other guests in Coconut Grove) its a canvas walled space with a corrugated iron roof fitted out with a 100 year old clawfoot bath and an instant gas hot water service. Toilet is outside the Tardis (inside a corrugated iron building), we keep the cistern off as it has friendly frogs in it, but it is a flush loo! If you are squeamish about frogs or don’t want a camping style experience then THE Tardis is not for you!!

Animals – as we have a dog and a pig onsite we don’t allow other animals.

Guest access

We’ve got guest access wifi on site but not in the spaces. please ask for password.
We have a washing machine if needed.

Guests can wander in our veggie patch and are welcome to dig around – or have a nibble! We also have lots of opal tailings around the place that you are welcome to spec in – finders keepers unless its a fossil in which case you’ll need to negotiate with Michael

Other things to note

Lightning Ridge is a unique place and our home and THE Tardis space reflects that. It’s a little bit like camping, only with a few important mod cons, so please come with an open mind!

If you are unsteady on your feet, this place will not be ideal for you as we have lots of opal clay on the ground, steps up and down and the bathroom is a shower over a tall claw foot bath.
